Dental Lecture
Topic : Achieving Dental Excellence with Indirect Tooth-Colored Restorations

The advent of new materials and the ongoing technological advancement in dentistry has now created newer pathways for clinical workflow to be made more predictable and precise, with better quality of care. Our modern patients have also become more discerning and expect quality, minimally invasive dentistry using only tooth-colored restorations. Traditionally this would have been a challenge, as metallic, non tooth-colored restorations were perceived to be stronger and frequently advocated for larger cavities and weakened tooth structures. With the maturation of adhesive technology, fortunately for these patients, there are now many ways that can be used to restore and rehabilitate such cavities in a conservative manner.

In this lecture, Dr Anthony Tay will discuss his experience on the management of large cavities in his daily practice, mainly using modern restorative composites and lithium disilicate glass ceramic materials, via an indirect approach. Clinical tips and tricks will be shared to achieve excellence and esthetics, while prolonging the longevity of the teeth involved. The audience will then have a clearer picture on how to handle these large cavities and provide quality restorations that will satisfy both the clinicians and the patients.

Pre-Conference Workshop
Topic : Indirect Composite Onlay

Traditionally, larger surface cavities are managed via an indirect prosthodontic approach, beginning with an impression of the prepared tooth, followed by laboratory fabrication of the prosthesis and completed by the cementation of the prosthesis back in the mouth. This comprehensive workflow, while predictable, can often take weeks to deliver and thus incur some inconvenience to the patients and clinicians. With the development of modern dental material and a simplified workflow, clinicians can now have the practical choice of creating their own indirect composite restorations in their own surgery and presenting it as an alternative economical option to their busy patients.

In this workshop, Dr Anthony Tay will detail and demonstrate the step-by-step sequences of creating an indirect composite onlay, using day-to-day modern restorative composite. Some of the stages will include preparation of the tooth, impression, die model creation, composite onlay fabrication and cementation. Clinical tips will be shared to achieve excellence and esthetics, while avoiding common mistakes. With this hands-on training provided, practitioners will eventually gain the confidence and skillset to create and place indirect composite onlay at the tip of their fingers.
