Ginny began her dental assisting career as an orthodontic and general chairside assistant. After 18 years of clinical experience she was employed for 6 years as a Dental Training Specialist for a Large Group Dental Practice that partnered with a Medical Program. During this time Ginny had the opportunity to work with over 100 dental teams to observe and train 4-Handed Dentistry concepts.
Ginny graduated from Portland Community College with an Associate Degree in Professional Technical Education and was a full time clinical dental assisting instructor at Portland Community College from 1998 to 2013.
Currently Ginny is an online instructor and externship coordinator and manager for the Portland Community College Integrated Community Dental Assisting Program.
She is an approved speaker on Bloodborne Pathogens for the National Association of Dental Laboratories (NADL), and the owner of Smith & Jorgensen Dental Consulting, a firm that provides current infection control audits, compliance training for dental professionals as well as Basic Dentistry and 4-Handed Dentistry lectures and workshops.
Ginny is currently an American Dental Assistant Association member. She is a founding Board of Trustee member and past president of The Dental Auxiliary Learning Education (DALE) Foundation and served from 2010 to 2017. As an Organization for Safety and Asepsis Procedures (OSAP) member Ginny currently serves on the DANB/OSAP National Infection Control Certificate Certification Steering Committee.
Ginny’s main objective is to support dental professionals by providing meaningful education and training in a positive learning environment for the betterment of dentistry.
Day 2 - Lecture 7
Topic : 4-Handed Dentistry Training.
Learning Outcomes
1. Explain 4-Handed Dentistry, the value to efficiency and increased productivity.
2. Demonstrate the proper seating positions of dental patients, providers and assistants.
3. Describe dental ergonomics and why using 4-Handed Dentistry concepts can reduce injury.
4. Identify dental instruments and burs by name, most common use and order in which they are used.
5. Describe Moisture Control and how to use the low and high volume suction devices to maintain a clear field of vision.
6. Demonstrate how to organize a dental operatory by placing equipment, instruments and materials in strategic locations for the most efficient delivery of care.
7. Demonstrate preparation and delivery of dental materials during dental procedures.
8. Demonstrate the proper passing of instruments, operation of suction devices and air/water syringes during a dental restorative procedure.
This course is a lecture/workshop designed for dental professionals who want to learn, review and practice the concepts of 4-Handed dentistry. Other dental professionals who are interested in learning more about 4-Handed Dentistry for purposes of training or the sale of dental equipment and supplies are welcome to attend.
During the 2-hour lecture, 4-Handed Dentistry concepts including ergonomics and the benefits will be discussed. Treatment room organization, moisture control using suction devices, basic restoration instruments, materials preparation and delivery will be presented.
The workshop will include 4-Handed Dentistry demonstrations and practice. Attendees will have the opportunity to perform a composite restoration on a simulator typodont using 4-Handed Dentistry Techniques.
