Speaker Profile


Dr. Ahmad Badruddin Ghazali graduated with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in the year 2014. He completed his specialty training in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from Mahidol University, Thailand in 2021.

He has been working in the dental field since the year 2015. He did his mandatory service with KKM in Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sabah (Kota Kinabalu and Lahad Datu) before joining IIUM in the academia in year 2016. He is currently serving as a lecturer in the Oral Radiology Unit, Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Oral Diagnosis, Kulliyyah of Dentistry, IIUM. He is a member of the Malaysia Dental Association, International Association of DentoMaxilloFacial Radiology (IADMFR), Asian Academy of Oral and Maxillo-Facial Radiology (AAOMFR), and Islamic Dental Association Malaysia (IDAM).

Dr. Ahmad Badruddin Ghazali has published and presented his papers in many local and international journals and conferences. He was also invited to give lectures in the Faculty of Dentistry, St. Anne College Lucena, Philippines, and Faculty of Dentistry, Airlangga University, Indonesia. His area of interest includes diagnosis of pathologies from dental radiographs, 3D CBCT, and applications of artificial intelligence in the dental fields.

Topic : Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry-A New Frontier

 

Abstract :

Oral Radiology Unit, Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Diagnosis, Kulliyyah of Dentistry, International Islamic University Malaysia.

Artificial intelligence can be defined as the capability of a machine to imitate human behavior in performing several tasks like object and word recognition, outcome prediction, and solving a problem. This technology has been utilized in our daily life, like in our web search and online assistant, and online shopping experience.

In dentistry, artificial intelligence can be applied to detect cephalometric landmark, detection and classification of dental diseases like caries, cyst and tumors, identification of the inferior alveolar nerve, diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders, segmentation of maxilla, mandible and dentition from radiographs and many more.

This lecture will explain about artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning in brief, explore the current progress of artificial intelligence in dentistry, any available products based on artificial intelligence in dentistry, limitation of the artificial intelligence and future prospects of this technology in our field.
