Short Biodata | Dr. Firdaus Hariri is a professor and senior consultant oral maxillofacial surgeon in Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Clinical Sciences, and the current Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya (UM). He obtained both his dental (BDS) and medical (MBBS) degrees from Universiti Malaya, Master of Science (MSc) in molecular medicine from International Medical University (IMU) and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery training with distinction at Queen Mary Hospital and Prince Philip Dental Hospital, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). His subspecialty and research interests are focused on pediatric craniofacial and reconstructive surgery as well as distraction osteogenesis. He has lectured both nationally and regionally, as well as actively involved in various scientific research projects, publications, grants and multidisciplinary collaborations focusing on pediatric craniofacial disorders. He is currently the coordinator for the multidisciplinary craniofacial clinic of UMMC, team leader for Craniofacial Research and Surgical (OCReS) group and subspecialty coordinator for the Fellowship in Advanced Craniomaxillofacial Surgery in Universiti Malaya. He is an active member of the International Society for Craniofacial Surgery, European Association of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and Malaysian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He serves actively in the editorial board of Frontiers in Oral Health, BMC Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Malaysian Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. |
Abstract | This lecture emphasizes on the importance of innovation in dental practice, research, education and training as fast-moving technologies are revolutionizing various aspects of dentistry. Innovation leads to optimization of resources, enhancing sustainable practices as well as improving organizational focus towards delivering its respective role in education, research or towards providing the best possible care to patients. |
