Short Biodata | Associate Professor Dr Noor Azlin Yahya is an academic staff at the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya. She has held various positions including Head of Dental Materials and Operative Dentistry Disciplines, Coordinator of both Biomaterials & Thermal Characterization Research Laboratories and Head of Biomaterials and Technology Research Group at the same faculty. She was one of the recipients of the Federal Scholarship to Study Dentistry in New Zealand under the Collaborative University of Malaya-University of Otago, Government to Government Programme. Later, she pursued her postgraduate study in Restorative Dentistry at Leeds Dental Institute, University of Leeds, UK. She has been involved in various clinical and laboratory research work and her main research interests are in synthesis, characterization and testing of various dental materials. She has written numerous ISI publications and has supervised more than 50 undergraduate and postgraduate research works. She has won over 40 awards and medals including gold medals at International Research Expositions in Brussels, Nuremberg, Geneva, London and Pittsburgh. In 2019 & 2022, she has been selected to participate in Asia Pacific Kerr Elite–Restorative Leaders’ Summit in Thailand & Singapore respectively. She represented Malaysia as panel and judge in the Kerr Restoratives South East Asia University Case Competition, 2021. She was recently appointed as President Elect, International Association of Dental Research (IADR) Malaysian section, Vice President and founder of Malaysian Dental Material Society (MDEMS) and one of the board members of Asian Network of Dental Materials Societies (ANDeMS). |
Abstract | The field of dentistry is experiencing a transformative shift in aesthetic practices, moving beyond traditional composite materials to explore innovative approaches that enhance both function and beauty. This presentation examines the limitations of conventional composites and introduces a range of alternative materials and techniques that can achieve superior aesthetic outcomes. By integrating advances in digital dentistry, biomimetic materials, and personalized treatment plans, practitioners can elevate patient satisfaction and outcomes. The discussion highlights case studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of these new methodologies, emphasizing their potential to redefine aesthetic standards in dental care. Ultimately, this exploration aims to inspire a holistic rethinking of aesthetics in dentistry, encouraging practitioners to embrace a broader spectrum of materials and techniques for enhanced patient experiences. |
