Short Biodata | Specialist in Endodontics BDS (Malaya), MDS (Endodontics) (Singapore), M Endo RCSEd (UK), FAMS (Endodontics) Dr. Josephine Tay Chiew Xsia graduated from the University of Malaya in 2006, served in the Ministry of Health Malaysia, and worked in private practice before going on further studies in 2013. Dr. Tay obtained her Master of Dental Surgery in Endodontics from the National University of Singapore in 2016, passed the Singapore Dental Council Qualifying Exams within the same year, and has been practicing exclusively in endodontics, managing various complex cases. She is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine in Endodontics, Singapore, and a board-certified Specialist in Endodontics with the Singapore Dental Council. Dr. Tay has a special research interest and is a visiting consultant at the National University Centre of Oral Health Singapore to collaborate on MTA obturation clinical study. She is a trained Medical Expert Witness and passionate about continual professional education. Dr Tay is also the key opinion leader of Dentsply Sirona, BioMTA, and Zeiss. |
Abstract | Dentistry has seen many breakthroughs in the last 30 years, both in materials and technologies. The introduction of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) in the 1990s was pivotal in endodontics due to its anti-microbial ability, excellent biocompatibility, superior seal, and bioactivity. The use of MTA as primary monoblock root canal filling is considered ideal and is now gaining popularity with reported high success rates. This lecture aims to show the following:
