Abstract

Lecture 7
7 Diode lasers have become an essential tool in contemporary dental and oral surgery practice due to their wavelength specificity, precise soft-tissue interaction, and strong bactericidal potential. This lecture explores the photothermal and photobiomodulation mechanisms underlying diode laser function, highlighting their clinical superiority in soft-tissue incision, coagulation, periodontal decontamination, peri-implantitis management, and endodontic disinfection. Comparative evidence on laser-assisted wound healing, hemostasis, reduction of postoperative morbidity, and enhanced microbial control will be reviewed alongside safety protocols and energy-delivery parameters. Through case-based analysis and current literature, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of diode lasers as a minimally invasive modality that expands surgical capabilities, improves clinical precision, and promotes predictable treatment outcomes across multiple dental disciplines.

Lecture 10
Piezosurgery utilises modulated ultrasonic microvibrations that selectively act on mineralised tissues, enabling micrometric cutting with minimal thermal insult and superior preservation of adjacent soft structures. This presentation examines the biophysical principles underlying piezoelectric osteotomy and compares its cellular and vascular impact with conventional rotary and oscillating instruments. Clinical applications will be discussed across dentoalveolar surgery, including atraumatic extractions, ridge preservation, sinus floor elevation, bone harvesting, and implant site preparation. Current literature on bone healing kinetics, reduced inflammatory response, and enhanced surgical visibility will also be highlighted. Attendees will gain insight into expanded indications and technique optimisation to achieve higher precision, safety, and biologically favourable outcomes.
